MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — November 18, 2013 — Charity begins at home, and children in Los Angeles are going to bed hungry tonight. Melissa’s Mutt Hutt (“MMH”), a Manhattan Beach and Santa Monica based pet nanny services business, is doing something to change that. MMH will work again this year with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) Adopt-A-Family Program to provide low-income families with toys, clothes and food this holiday season. Last year, MMH sponsored over 150 people, raising tens of thousands of dollars in contributions, hand wrapped and delivered by Santa and Mrs. Claus.

The 3rd Annual Melissa’s Mutt Hutt & Cat Shack Charity Party will take place on Thursday, December 12, 2013 from 6:30-9pm at Wirtshaus located at 345 N La Brea Avenue, Los Angeles, CA. Complimentary food and drinks will be served and donations for the Adopt-A-Family Program will be collected at the party.

According to the USDA, one in four children struggle with hunger on a daily basis. The nation’s economic crisis has catapulted the number of Americans who lack enough food to 49 million – the highest level since the government began keeping track. Food shortages are particularly pronounced among women raising children alone.

Through the generosity and contributions of individuals, groups and organizations, the Adopt-A-Family Program can make a significant difference for local needy families and children during the holidays. If you would like to sponsor a family of your own, please contact Erica Moya, the Departmental Volunteer Coordinator Toy Loan and Volunteer Services at (213) 744-4348 or EricaMoya@dpss.lacounty.gov .
